This sorting is done to ensure that all players will start with a 7 card hand regardless of how many players are involved in your 7 Wonders game. A 4 player game will also need the 5+ cards removed. If you are going to play a 5 person game then the 6+ and 7+ cards need to be removed from the deck. The idea was to find a game that would accommodate more than four players and allow us to play something other than Ticket to Ride.
